Senior basketball player provides insight into college recruiting process

Senior Dre Puryear anticipates playing basketball at a collegiate level next year.

Puryear participated in the Amateur Athletics Union boys basketball league this past year and played on the varsity team for the past two years.

Norfolk University, Christopher Newport University, and James Madison University demonstrated interest in having Puryear play basketball for them.

AAU basketball travels for competitions. College basketball coaches often find recruits at these games.

“The colleges found me through AAU,” Puryear said. “The assistant coaches of colleges go to those games and evaluate the players. Afterwards they talk to certain people.”

Puryear hopes to play for a Division I college next year.

“I am interested in Madison,” Puryear said. “The only college I have been to yet is CNU for a tournament, but I really want to play Division I.”

Puryear will play varsity basketball as he continues through the college recruiting process.
