Parents to relive high school during Back to School Night tomorrow

Parents will have the chance to feel ’17 again’ during Back to School Night Thursday, Sept. 26 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

They will visit South Lakes and see what their children will experience during the 2013-14 school year.

This year, the school is introducing a new way to commute to Back to School Night to free up parking spaces while saving the environment. The are shuttles coming from Forest Edge, Dogwood, and Fox Mill Elementary schools. People must sign up for a spot on these shuttles to take advantage of what administrators hope will provide an easy and efficient way back and forth.

“The parking is a disaster, there are always so many parents coming in,”  said security specialist Brian Elliott said. “When you think about it, there are about 2,500 students, so we have 5,000 parents coming in. Not everybody drives to school but everybody drives to Back to School Night.”

At Back to School Night, parents will get the chance to see their child’s daily routine firsthand by walking around the school, sitting in different classes, visiting the locker pods, discovering extracurricular activities, and socializing with others. Ultimately, they will experience high school all over again, only from their child’s point of view.
