Gear up for a night of speedy buzzers and teamwork! South Lakes Leadership is hosting their second-annual trivia night on January 27 from 3:30-5pm, and both staff and students are welcome to test their knowledge and compete for prizes!
Trivia questions range in difficulty and involve numerous categories from pop culture to sports.
Fortunately, South Lakes Leadership works to ensure that questions represent the school’s demographic and that all students have a chance of knowing the answer.
Students and teachers are welcomed and encouraged to take on the challenge by signing up their teams of 3-8 participants.
Co-lead Katie Bagley has been planning the event with her team for the last few months, and hopes that people will embrace the opportunity to participate in the entertaining occasion.
“Everyone should try to participate! It’s a really fun event with healthy competition where you’re able to connect with others,” she said.
New this year, some big changes are coming to Trivia Night that will encourage creativity and brighten up the scene.
“This year, we want to award more teams for different categories, so that we don’t have only one winner at the end,” said Leadership teacher Dr. McDermott. “The team that is the most spirited and has the best theme will win a smaller prize.”
Teams will have the option to sign up with an original theme for the spirit competition on the form, but they must be approved by administration and Leadership before Trivia Night.
McDermott oversees the student-run event, and expressed her excitement for the battle of the brains.
“Trivia Night is an opportunity for South Lakes staff and faculty to get together with students; it’s fun seeing who knows the most trivia,” she said.
Last year, the event, hosted in collaboration with Schoolhouse Trivia, drew around 16 teams and around 100 participants, according to Erica Ocansey, a Trivia Night co-lead. Leadership students hope to draw in even more participants and teams this year.
