Movie theater renovations in Reston, Herndon positively received by Seahawks

Bow Tie Cinemas in Reston Town Center was previously the most popular movie theater for students. However, after Worldgate AMC introduced new renovations, students have flocked to Worldgate for an improved movie watching experience.

Worldgate’s renovated theaters include reclining chairs, rotating food trays, and assigned seating. The concessions area of the theatre was altered as well to include a bar, more electronically advanced ticket purchasing, and a larger array of snacks and drinks to choose from.

According to the AMC website, the theatre made these renovations to allow customers to “see the latest movies with the ultimate
coziness.”
Worldgate’s new seats recline backwards to form an almost flat surface with an armrest that extends along with it, making it a popular choice for couples.

“The seats feel like clouds and they’re really nice,” senior Paul Kim said. “But if you sit next to someone you don’t know, it’s awkward because you are lying next to the person.”

Assigned seating is the most unique of Worldgate’s renovations in comparison to nearby theatres. When purchasing tickets, moviegoers can choose the seats they wish to sit in
electronically.

“When I go with my friends to a movie, usually one person has to buy the tickets to make sure all the seats are together then we pay them back later,” sophomore Marty Gryski said.

Bow Tie Reston Town Center recently underwent renovations as well to offer nicer accommodations, including more comfortable seats and an easier view of the movie screen from all locations within the theater.

Although students tend to like Worldgate’s upgrades better than Bow Tie Cinemas’, many people ultimately prefer Bow Tie Cinemas due to its close proximity to Reston Town Center.

“Bow Tie Cinemas is my favorite because of the convenience,” senior Danielle Hale said. “It is close to me and I like walking around the Reston Town Center with my friends after the movie.”

Other theatres in the area include UA Fairfax Town Center, Regal Countryside, and Airbus IMAX theater.

“It is hard to go because it is far away, but the IMAX theatre in DC is really cool,” senior Lindsey Gibson said. “It’s a whole different movie watching experience.”
