Significant changes in Reston, Virginia’s North Point Village Center have come and gone, but a permanent one that has left fellow residents with mixed opinions is the closure of Bobby’s Bagels, the neighborhood Bagel Cafe. A local favorite known for its plain bagels, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and don’t forget the countless Creamcheese offerings that were made in house, closed for good. This past year, one Halloween themed bagel had thousands coming from all over the country to try this pumpkin shaped bagel.
Bobby’s bagels had initially announced its closure would take place on October, 31st, 2024. However, with the popularity of the viral pumpkin bagel, they decided to expand operations until November, 30th, 2024, giving people one final month to enjoy their menu. With the news of Bobby’s Bagel’s closure, many regulars were met with sadness, but the arrival of DC’s famous Call Your Mother has sparked curiosity and excitement in the community.
Call Your Mother has been steadily gaining popularity since it first opened in Washington D.C. This deli is originally known for their house made bagels with a twist combining elements of classic New york bagels and Montreal style bagels. Co founders Andrew Dana and Daniela Moreira describe the bagels to be a “hybrid” bagel that combines New york’s chewiness with the slightly sweeter taste of Montreal style bagels. Since gaining popularity, they now have a rotating selection of different pastries, a handful of different coffee drinks, sandwiches and even sides.
Once operational, this Call Your Mother location will be the fourth location in Northern Virginia.
For the North Point Village Center, the addition of Call Your Mother will be a fresh new chapter for residents, continuing the tradition of offering high quality dining options. While some past regulars at Bobby’s Bagel Cafe are sad to see it go, others are excited to see what new change will arise.
