The annual Gingerbread Contest was held Dec. 3 from 2:15 p.m. until the late evening. The competitors assembled their houses in the cafeteria and then transported them into the lecture hall for judging.

Teams were comprised of friends, clubs, and even faculty members who competed against one another to create the ‘most interesting’ house. The first place winner “Christmas in July” was inspired by the Kardashians when they went to Bora Bora. Other houses were based off of landmarks, movies themes, and even the popular computer game, Mine Craft.

Students felt that the contest was a great way to show off their artistic abilities and interests.

“Our house was inspired by our groups love for the Kardashians,” senior Kaitlyn Ball said. “We really came together and had great team chemistry.”

Almost every year, at least one house falls apart on a team. A group comprised of IB Art students had their “Up” inspired house fall apart. They changed the name of their project to “Down” and ended up winning the most thematic category.

“Even though our house fell apart, I still had a great time,” senior Caroline Sartorius said. “We were able to make a joke out of it and ended up winning one of the categories.”

Along with hosting the competition, the German Honor Society sold concessions in order to raise funds for their club.
